How Ovako's inclusive culture drives gender equality and diversity in the steel industry

At Ovako, our open and inclusive culture based on pride in the business and its employees, is the foundation of our operations. The steel industry has traditionally been male-dominated and Ovako is committed to increasing the number of women among our employees. We engage in a number of activities to raise the share of women in the organization and have set clear targets for this. Efforts include collaboration with educational institutions, and making sure external recruitment firms are always present female candidates in the recruitment process.

In addition to gender equality, Ovako is working actively to achieve higher diversity in relation to other factors. Everyone must have equal opportunities and the company has zero tolerance for all forms of discrimination and harassment.

Our long term goal is at least 40% of either gender as well as reaching 23% women in total workforce and 25% in managers overall by 2025.

How Ovako improves workplace safety and health: reducing accidents and promoting employee wellness

We work systematically to improve working conditions by making our machinery safer, conducting safety inspections and making sure that risk assessments are carried out if any changes are made to our operations.

The number of accidents with absence has decreased by almost 90% since 2015 and our long-term goal is to eliminate accidents completely.

Ovako aims for all employees to be healthy. We are working proactively to identify signs of illness at an early stage and to help employees with individualized solutions. Ovako has local health efforts in all of its locations, with a focus on leadership, health inspiration, wellness allowances, fitness opportunities and financial support for recreational clubs.
